You are sitting on the couch eating a snack and suddenly you notice that you don't hear your children. So many things may be running through your mind.
- Are they getting into your favorite facial cream that you tucked away.
- Are they drawing on the walls
- Are they destroying the room that you just took an hour cleaning up ? LOL
You head to locate them just to find them extremely focused on an activity with blocks. As you observe their face so many things run through your mind.
- Are they frustrated ?
- Should you jump in and intervene ?
- Should you redirect their attention ?
Sometimes the parent in us want to so badly redirect what they are doing but it is important to let your children explore in their own creative way. Letting them play allows them the opportunity to explore and learn on their own. It also gives them a sense of confidence by allowing them to have a little sense of independence. Instead of trying to control the situation try observing and creating dialogue when they are done to talk about what they are doing. This is a great way to have a fun yet engaging conversation with your kiddos.
As Maria Montessori would say " Play is the work of the child" so let your children learn and explore in their own way. They are only little for a small amount of time,
